What you prefer in MapDroyd next?

Could we mark a point on the map and get data about it (coordinates, street name,...)

My HTC Tattoo has an application called Footprints that allows to define points in space with a photograph, map from GPS, address from Google Maps, rating, class (Shopping, Leisure, Restaurants,...) and my comments and rating. I'd like to see it integrated in MapDroyd or at least a means to mark my own points on the map.

If possible, better map rendering. Especially for low density areas (United states), the maps are nearly empty at a level of useful overview.

serious, I like this app. You can use it everywhere you want, the maps are detailed, but not to much: almost perfect!
I use this app very often, but it would be even nicer if ther was some kind of a navigator included: it would be the best that can happen with me!
please think about it!

The feature I'd most like to see is the handling of Loc:
I often go geocaching and the application I use allows you to view a map of an area. I'd like to have the option of viewing the locations in MapDroyd thus avoiding data use.
Eg, currently when I click "Maps" or anything using the Loc: prefix, I get the option of viewing the information in either the browser or google maps.
I'd love to see MapDroyd also have this association :)

Please add Support for OziExplorer map file format(s) (ozf2, ...)
It is very easy to create new map yourself in this format (There are tools...), so there is a lot of free maps in this format.
Some links:
See the format specs e.g. here: http://www.rus-roads.ru/gps/help_ozi/map_file_format.htmlSimilar effort for other map software: http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=4660Original product for Windows Mobile: http://www.oziexplorer3.com/ozice/oziexplorerce1.html

what about comment functionality on the maps.  like google maps.. but offline :) so you can add comments on certain locations for example ; you visit a city and in advance you make a route or just places you want to visit but they are visible on the main map :) would be great! or even better you customize your own map on the website  or computer and are able to download it on the mobile phone that would be superb!
i think of this cause i plan on visit a city outside of my own country and mobile internet is just not nice to use outside your own country :)

The map rendering could be improved quite a bit before working on new features.  Mapnik tiles in RMaps are based on the same data, but look a lot better.
Manhattan is not part of New Jersey, for instance.  :)

I would like the "My Location" button to use the current best guess of my loction  i.e. wifi or network rather than forcing me to switch on my GPS.
Gareth

Fully support to these idea!!

Would be nice to have...
1. a compass in the map or a map that autorotates according to the current direction.
2. the possibility to move the map, even if "Mein Standort" is activated. Pressing anew the "Mein Standort"-button should again center the map to the current gps position.
3. some geocaching functionality, e.g. talk to the geobeagle guys such that they integrate your app into their geocaching app or maybe develop CacheDroyd ;)
I started to observe and use MapDroyd even before it was available in the market! This app becomes better and better! Please keep going on!

I like to be able to navigate. I like the format it's smaller than all the png stuff and stiff fast. As i think the streetnames are stored in your format it would be realy great to be able to navigate on those maps (offline ofcouse) cause that's something i am missing at the moment on my g1,
Keep up the good work

Would like to see an identifier on maps list to show what maps have already been downloaded to content droyd.

Markus

You think you have a better idea how we could extend MapDroyd? Just leave us a comment in English or German here.

Hey there,
first of all great app! Love it. Though being able to search for locations or addresses would really help you navigate around a new city. List style or even turnbyturn navigation would be even better of course ;-) But leaving out the navigation issue, searching maps for places would be really the most important thing to increase useability. Another small feature that would help with getting along the interface and the offline maps is if you'd show small icons on areas that are not covered by the users current map packs and allow to start the download directly inside the mapdroyd application.
Grüße ausm Schwabenländle!

Hi, i have just installed your app. This is very cool. There is one thing, that i did not find anywhere on you site, how often do you regenerate the map files from OSM? Because the place where i live is not yet mapped, but i am planning to draw the missing parts, so it would be nice to see the new areas.
Keep up the good work, cheers, Laszlo

Hi,
To follow this idea, I would ask for a more frequent update: OSM goes fast !!
Yves

Would like the ability to mark a spot on a map (to find later through a list of favorite places)
Also, would like to resume at last location (or zoom level) where the software bombed.

Ansonsten prima Arbeit!

The best thing ever would be: offline Navigation based on GPS... that would be so awesome!

Even if it just allowed a course to be plotted (and highlighted on the maps) and followed my position by GPS.

how about taking a gpx file and allowing nav off line.. that would be killer!

Simple navigation is a must! I could not believe I could get these details maps offline when I first found this app. I like it alot.
